Although Zoloft is very effective for social anxiety, do not expect instant relief overnight. It may take a week or two or up to eight weeks before you notice improvement. Do not give up and stop taking the medication if you are not improved after a week or two.

Some of the more common side effects from Zoloft are nausea, sexual side effects, dry mouth, sleepiness, diarrhea and insomnia. Not everyone gets these exact side effects and some may get none, while others seem to get many of them. Don't let the side effects deter you from taking the Zoloft for social anxiety unless you feel they are severe. In this case, you should always discuss this with your doctor, as he may just need to adjust the dosage.
Your doctor may want you to participate in therapy or other treatment in addition to taking Zoloft for social anxiety as opposed to just taking the drug alone.
