from:

Social anxiety affects millions of individual's each year. Social anxiety is the fear of speaking to other people, meeting new people or carrying on conversation and activities with new people. Some of the symptoms are sweating, blushing, extreme shyness, palpitating, fear and nervousness. Social anxiety can and does affect the daily lives of the individuals that suffer from this disorder. There are different kinds of therapy and treatment that may be recommended for social anxiety.

If you're one of the millions of people that suffer from social anxiety and are at your wit's end, you may want to consider Zoloft for social anxiety. You may already have heard of Zoloft for social anxiety, but don't know enough information on it to consider this.

Doctors have been prescribing Zoloft for social anxiety and depression for over 15 years. Zoloft is a prescription medication that is tolerated very well by most patients and is very effective in the treatment of social anxiety as well as depression. The fact that it is effective in treating depression may be one of the factors that make it also effective for social anxiety. Generally, patients that suffer from social anxiety also suffer from depression, usually brought on by the social anxiety. Zoloft is a very versatile drug that is also used to treat Obsession Compulsive Disorder, Premenstrual dysphoric disorder, panic disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder.

Zoloft is a prescription medication that helps to correct a chemical imbalance in the brain, which may be contributing to the social anxiety. This drug comes in many different doses so your doctor will discuss what the correct dose will be for you if you choose to try Zoloft for social anxiety. Although Zoloft is very effective for social anxiety, do not expect instant relief overnight. It may take a week or two or up to eight weeks before you notice improvement. Do not give up and stop taking the medication if you are not improved after a week or two.

As with all medications, if you choose to take Zoloft for social anxiety, you can expect some side effects. Some of the more common side effects from Zoloft are nausea, sexual side effects, dry mouth, sleepiness, diarrhea and insomnia. Not everyone gets these exact side effects and some may get none, while others seem to get many of them. Don't let the side effects deter you from taking the Zoloft for social anxiety unless you feel they are severe. In this case, you should always discuss this with your doctor, as he may just need to adjust the dosage.

Your doctor may want you to participate in therapy or other treatment in addition to taking Zoloft for social anxiety as opposed to just taking the drug alone.
